Handcraft Fair

Handwerk beurs.

Handcraft Fair.
Yesterday my best friend and I went to the handcraft fair. Unfortunately during the workshops and the fair we forgot to take pictures, we totally went up in the amount of stands, fun and workshops and everything that we saw. Back at home I took a few pictures where you can see what we've done.

At the Hoooked stand, there was a very helpful woman that showed me how to Tunisian Crochet. The yarn they make is made of fabric they use in the clothes industry it's a waste product so they recycle the fabric to make yarn of it, you can look at Hoooked.com But what Geesje (the woman in the stand) did looked so appealing to me that I bought the yarn and the needles, a normal crochet needle and a Tunisian crochet needle. I tried it at home Sunday evening and this is how it turned out, it is still not beautiful and straight, but the basic I know now.

I did a workshop wool dyeing with dye from Australia, it's nature, non toxic dye, which i love very much, they had some colors but you needed to make your own color range with a few basic colors, I made a color range in the purple and pink style. This is the result, and for a beginner (this was the first time I did this) it turned out to be lovely. My son Daniël helped me at home to wash the wool a few times and dry it, because at the workshop there was no time for it. Now I only need to spindle spinning it. Hope for a good result also.

And for my birthday as a present I got a workshop spindle spinning from my best friend Linda, and together we had a lot of fun doing it. With carded wool we actually made yarn. We made with a homemade spindle spun (made from 2 cd's a lamp holder and a wooden) yarn and twisted the yarn. And we got some wool also to take home to practice. Thanks Linda for this wonderful gift, I loved to do this with you!

Knitting in progress

Breien in uitvoering.

Knitting in progress.
Last week I finished off my baby booties for my little niece Manoah. And I´m proud to present you the progress of my very first pattern made knitting handcraft.

Another day of knitting

It is Sunday, my husband is taking our oldest boy to the zoo, so they can spend some quality time together and for me and the youngest we can spend some good time together also. Lucas is still a baby, so he takes a nap or 2 during the daytime still, and he is a good sleeper he sleeps about 2-3 hours. Then this mommy can spend a few hours of knitting, I want to finish the baby booties of my niece Manoah and make a nice hat and scarf for Lucas. So my goal of today is knitting all over the place, listen to good easy going music like Radical Face - Welcome Home and have some good fun with Lucas.

I wish you a good a crafty Sunday!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Looking Good

I've spend the whole evening trying to let my blog look good. Why would you ask, well because I like it to read a blog that has a nice appearance. So I figured that other people will do the same. And it's just more appealing to look at a blog you know people made some effort to let it look awesome, then want to look at a blog you almost fall asleep at ;) Not that I sometimes don't read "boring" blogs, but the change is that I just clicked them away because of that... I am a dummy if it come to HTML and that sort of computer language if you can call it that way ;) That's why I'm really happy that I made this happen, without help from a man, any man, because the most men thinks that are better with computers than woman, yeah girl power all over the place.
So let me introduce you to my "new" blog appearance. But maybe I change it again, and again, till it becomes "perfect" in my opinion. I would appreciate if you let me know what you think about it.

Have a good evening,

Knitting Pins

Oh joepie, mijn breinaalden set is net aangekomen.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Oh goody, my needle set just arrived. I got them for my birthday, but I actually self-selected them, friends and family have contributed this year. I could not resist to open them at once. They’re great, I even started a hat for Lucas. And after that I’m gonna make my “specialty”, a matching scarf, then he also has a nice set. Although winter seems almost over, it’s really beautiful outside, but it still could go the other way and certainly in the morning it can be cold, so for a little one its is nice to have a hat and scarf.
And I would like to say; Dear friends and family, thank you very much for the lovely set of knitting needles, sweet cards, and visit, I really enjoyed it!

Have a good crafty day!

Mother Inspiration II

This is the second page for my mother’s digital scrapbook. My mother makes the most awesome, beautiful scrapbooks by paper herself, she is very good and talented at it and she just looses her self into those scrapbooks. She made books for all her children, grand children and for a lot of friends and other family members also. So I want to give her something back at mothers day this year to show her how important she is for me and all the work she has done for me, when I was a child and when I grew up to be a mother myself. My children thought me what a good and sweet mother I always had and still have, and that it is hard to do it  “right”. As a mother I appreciate my own mother so much more, her love and endless patience, understanding and her commitment to her husband, my father and us, the children. Thats why I want to make something special for her, something I know she likes and made myself, where I can put my heart and soul in it ♥.

I have 2 sons, Daniël and Lucas, Daniël will be 3 in 3 months so a “big” party comming up, he will get a kids bicycle for his birthday, because he really loves to ride. Lucas is 11 months now, so he will be 1 year in March for him a big birthday party also. A lot happens in one year, from a baby to a toddler, from crying for a bottle to saying papa papa, mama mama… How wonderful is growing up, you learn so much everyday, and I as a mother also. Lucas had his first ride on the bicycle today, on the front in the bike seat his hear in the wind, and laughing because he was going so fast. I was the most wonderful feeling, just like with my first born son, it is so awesome to see them happy and enjoying  the riding with there mommy, it makes my day! So I want to thank my mother for all that she has done for me, now I can do that for my kids.

Mother Inspiration

Today I had some inspiration for a scrap page. I just got a present for my husband, because he loves me he said, and because he thinks that I am a great mother for our children… Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes not, but I do know everyone is insecure about somethings sometime, and mine is that I am not always the mother that I want to be. My house is not always as in the magazines and my laundry keeps stacking into a large pile, why I do not know… I’ll do my best in keep it tidy, and most of the days it looks like a normal house, and sometimes it looks like a tornado hits the living room, the tornado of children… So thats why my husband bought me this to give me a heads up.

So the inspiration for the digital scrap page came from these cards, the sentences thats on the cards are so beautiful that you can only image them on a nice page.

So I took a quote from a card make a nice page around it. I will print this and give it to my mother on mothers-day… Only that is in May so I still can make a few more and make a little scrapbook from it.
To all of you, if you are a mother or not here is another quote: Every day may not be good, but there is some good in every day <3 (Liefgeval)

Have a nice day!

Knitting Project 7

Last Saturday I bought some bright colored yarn at the store. I didn’t know what I should made of it but its very girlish like and I love the bright colors but I don’t think that I can make something from the yarn for my self, maybe I’m a little bit to old for that… So I was thinking to make something for my niece she is now 1 year and trying to walk so a pair of baby booties would come in handy.

Sunday afternoon, I was strolling on the internet and I found a nice pattern at Garnstudio.com for some nice baby booties, and I wanted to try to actually follow the  pattern this time. What seems not all that hard with this particularly pattern. After an hour of knitting I found out that I misread a line so I couldn’t get the sides together.   There where 2 left sides ;) so I pulled it all out and started over again. Now I have finished one of the booties, but I still made a little mistake. I know what the fault is so now I can make it all come together right. But nevertheless I’m very happy with my first sample… And I’m pretty proud of myself that I actually looks like baby booties :)

So now I can not say anymore that I can’t read patterns but I’m sure I need to do it a lot more so I can get the harder ones also. Onces I got stared with the pattern and took it step by step it seems not so hard anymore then I thought it would be. So I learn everyday a little bit more, witch is really nice and satisfying.
If anyone knows some nice “easy” baby booties patterns without having it to knit on more than 2 needles can you please post a replay at the bottom of this post? I would appreciate any commends on this blog if there is something I can improve like writing wise. Because this is my first blog and I can always use some tips and hints, on the blog itself and the craft work also.

Have a good and crafty Sunday and thanks for reading this post.

Day of Knitting

This is the day I want to spend on a new knitting a new project. A scarf as accessory without a pattern, just by combine a few stitches I used in knitting project #5

In fact I really want to spend more time on knitting, but I need some help with it, because I can’t read patterns yet. So all I do is making some scarfs, they are nice and lovely or just functional and warm, but I would love to knit a sweater if the children and a nice one for my husband too. I have a book about it but I can’t figure out how somethings work properly. Maybe it is easier with someone who can just let me show one or two times. Anyways I’m going to the hand craft fair witch is the end of this month, so thats not far away. It’s all about learning, and now I found something that I really love (Knitting) and want to learn all about it, well all that is in my power to do so, and what I like ofcourse…
I found a book on the internet called One-Skein Wonders from Judith Durant, but I can’t read the American patterns because they measure in a different way we European people do ;) and I did not found a translation yet, now I’m searching for an equivalent in Dutch to finish up my yarn stock at home. Is there someone who knows a book in Dutch similar to One-Skein Wonders?

I love the colors displayed on the cover of the book, but I’m afraid to use such bright colors. When I’m in a store I seem to buy the “neutral” ones, or just purple – pink etc. Maybe I just need to buy a few bright colors and see how it will work out for me. And hopefully I can make something different than a scarf ;)
So my goal for today is to finish of the scarf, and make an inventory of all the yarns that I have left laying around just waiting for me to turn them in something nice.
